Retirement can be really fun, provided you move to a community that offers activities that generate friendship and keep you active. The hardest part about retiring away from your home and friends is meeting new people and creating a new life that you will be happy with. Specifically, a place where there is a lot to do, activities within the community to keep you busy and activities in the area that provide additional friendship and camaraderie.

TENNIS CENTER - 16 HAR TRU TENNIS COURTS

I found the best place along the coast of Florida, almost by mistake. A friend, in Philadelphia, had told me about Sea Oaks Beach and Tennis Club in Vero Beach and what a great place it is, friendly people and lots of activity... I was in Stuart, visiting my sister and we decided to go to Vero Beach and do some shopping. When we were there, I remembered my friend's comment about Sea Oaks. So, off we went to find Sea Oaks.

OUR BEACH CLUB

What a great surprise. Sea Oaks is like no other community I had found in Florida. Entering through the gate, the first thing we noticed were the Live Oak trees and extensive plantings. Unlike many developments in Florida, where everything is leveled, Sea Oaks had character. The vegetation obscured the housing from the main road leading in; therefore we didn't feel like we were in a development.

Our first stop was at the Tennis Center, where we were met by the staff and a couple of members on the porch, overlooking the courts. Nice, good looking people who made us feel welcomed right off the bat. After being treated to an iced tea, we drove all over the community and had a good tour of the housing, the neighborhoods within the development, the river front and the Beach Club.

Sea Oaks Beach & Tennis Club is a tennis community complete with a community center, fitness center, three restaurants, more pools than I can count, over a half a mile of fabulous beach and riverfront, private beach club and tennis center..... It was fabulous & friendly.

About a year later, I decided to move to Sea Oaks and here is where I am today.

BEACH CLUB COMMUNITY POOL

I activated my real estate broker's license and joined a local real estate company, Dale Sorensen Real Estate. I'm doing all the things I love to do. I play tennis a couple of times a week, golf once a week, list and sell houses here in Sea Oaks and am involved with volunteer activities and my friends. It is what I imagined it would be - a fun active community.

I love golf too! About three miles away is a county golf course called Sandridge. They have two 18 hole courses, beautifully maintained, inexpensive to play and very well organized.

Sea Oaks offers all types of properties for both sale or rent. Prices range from $150,000 to $1,000,000. Single family homes and condominiums on the river or on the ocean side... There is something here for everyone. Our weather is mild compared to southern Florida. We have seasons here, although they are not a pronounced as seasons can get up north. It's comfortable year-round in Vero Beach.
